house in fallOne in eight American women, or 13 percent, will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. The good news is that in 2008, there were more than 2.5 million women in the U.S. who are breast-cancer survivors, and the number is growing every year. I am one of them.

My name is Bridget and I am one of the 2.5 million survivors.

I was diagnosed four years ago, and my life since has followed a completely different path—one I never expected to take. Despite having a background in the healing arts, what struck me during my diagnosis was that I was, for the most part, unprepared. Unprepared for the decisions I would be asked to make, the physical grind of treatment and rehabilitation and the effect of being diagnosed.

The Pastures’ philosophy is that true healing can occur through having a supportive community and holding a sacred space to gather with fellow wellness warriors to help support you on your path. Learn more about the day retreat workshops we hold, including one on the weekend of December 12, 2009.
